This could be happening for a number of reasons, but it's probably the fact that your battery is defective. To test, unplug the battery and plug the charger into your computer. If it turns on, the battery is faulty, and not one of many other components that are occasionally the culprit. The solution to this, quite obviously, is to get a new battery.
